My poem, “What’s the point?” has been broadcasted during The Real Buzz radio station’s ad breaks every day since 22 January 2017.
It was written in early 2000 and expressed my feelings about the continuing youth violence that was happening in London. At the time, this was something I felt very strongly about because it had impacted people close to me.
Gee Da Genious is always the man with the plan with ideas for my poetry to be heard. A true friend and supporter of my craft, for many years he had been trying to get me on one of his radio shows, but I had always been too nervous to do live radio.
When What's the point was first written Gee heard and we arranged for a variation of the poem to be used when he was djing on Have It Fm.
Almost 20 years later, with Gee Da Genius and his Vocal Voyage Show on Buzz Radio 103.8fm, he again asked me come on his show and again nerves go the better of me, so we compromised with some jingles and a recorded poem to be used as a community advert. I could not argue with that.
With the poignancy of the poem “What’s the point?” still reigning true and London’s youth violence still high, Gee Da Genius put the idea of a community advert to the management of Buzz Radio.
